Small Businesses Call on Kansas Legislature to Provide Regulatory Certainty

February 6, 2024 Last Edit: June 5, 2025

“We thank the House for standing up for small business owners and ask the Senate to swiftly support HB 2446.”

TOPEKA (Feb. 6, 2024) – Following the House’s passage of HB 2446, a bill that provides regulatory certainty for small business owners across the state, NFIB State Director Dan Murray called on the Senate to take up and support the measure.

“Across the country, cities have attempted to restrict single-use plastic bags. Not only are these products useful for the consumer, but crucial to the day-to-day functions of a business. Our job creators are tasked with managing all sorts of challenges, and a patchwork regulatory framework across the state only stands to complicate regulatory compliance for Main Street. HB 2446 ensures our small business owners have regulatory certainty. We thank the House for standing up for small business owners and ask the Senate to swiftly support HB 2446.”

Background:

HB 2446, would provide regulatory certainty for small business owners by prohibiting municipalities from adopting or enforcing an ordinance, resolution or regulation that restricts, taxes, prohibits or otherwise regulates the use, disposition, or sale of auxiliary containers or consumer merchandise.
