Small Business Reaction to State Economic Package Announced Today

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Feb. 17, 2021—From John Kabateck, California state director for the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) on today’s package of initiatives announced by Gov. Gavin Newsom, Senate President Toni Atkins, and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon.

“We were delighted to see the governor and legislative leaders make the recovery of small businesses a top priority. With tax time around the corner, we are especially grateful that businesses will be allowed to deduct up to $150,000 from expenses covered by the federal PPP. Many California businesses have been in a quandary over how to properly file 2020 taxes. This is welcome news.

“Furthermore, we are also pleased state leaders recognized the need for two years of fee relief for specific shuttered businesses and increasing the amount of funds available for small business grants.”
