Small Business Candidates Win in Texas Primary

Twenty of the 21 incumbents endorsed by the NFIB Federal PAC won their primaries for reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives: District, candidate 2 Dan Crenshaw 4 Pat Fallon 5 Lance Gooden 6 Jake Ellzey 10 Michael McCaul 11 August Pfluger 12 Kay Granger 13 Ronny Jackson 14 Randy Weber 17 Pete Sessions 19 Jodey Arrington 21 Chip Roy 22 Troy Nehls 23 Tony Gonzales 24 Beth Van Duyne 25 Roger Williams 26 Michael Burgess 27 Michael Cloud 31 John Carter 36 Brian Babin In a five-person race, Van Taylor, who represents the state’s 3rd congressional district, led by a wide margin, but in Texas, you need over 50 percent of the vote to avoid a runoff. Taylor won 48.7% of the vote on Tuesday, well ahead of second-place Keith Self, with 26.5%. They’ll square off in the runoff election in May.State
Gov. Greg Abbott easily won the Republican nomination for a third term as Texas governor. He’ll face Democratic challenger Beto O’Rourke in November. There was no clear winner in the Democratic race for lieutenant governor. Wednesday morning, Mike Collier, who had 42% of the vote with 95% of precincts reporting, appeared headed for a runoff with Michelle Beckley, who had 30% of the party’s vote. The winner of that runoff will go up against GOP nominee Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in the general election. Small business candidates also fared well in state legislative races. Three of the four candidates nominated by the NFIB Texas PAC for state Senate easily won their party’s nomination. They are Angela Paxton (8th District), Phil King (10th District), and Tan Parker (12th District). The fourth, Pete Flores, led in the 24th District with 46% of the vote. He’ll face second-place finisher Raul Reyes in the May runoff.
