Shop Small During Back-To-School Tax-Free Holiday

Certain back-to-school items will be exempt from sales tax from Friday, August 2 through Sunday, August 4.

SANTA FE (July 31, 2024) – Ahead of the Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday, NFIB New Mexico is encouraging consumers to shop small. The sales tax holiday, which begins on Friday, August 2, and runs through the weekend, is a great opportunity to support local businesses.

“When you shop locally, more of your hard-earned dollars stay within the community,” NFIB State Director Jason Espinoza said. “Main Street is the backbone of our economy, creating good-paying jobs and supporting charitable organizations that keep our communities thriving. We hope that New Mexico families will turn to their small businesses for their back-to-school supplies during this sales tax holiday.”

Background:

According to the New Mexico Department of Taxation & Revenue, the 2024 Tax Holiday begins at 12:01 AM CT on Friday, August 2, and concludes Sunday, August 4 at midnight.
