NFIB Interim State Director Chris Ferruso today applauded Senate passage of Senate Bill 1, legislation that would help prepare students for the workforce. “Senate Bill 1’s creation of the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce would restore responsibility for budgetary and policymaking under the direction of the executive branch with oversight by the General Assembly, ensuring education accountability,” Ferruso said, adding that a recent survey of NFIB’s 21,000 members in Ohio found overwhelming support for the legislation. “Our members are very supportive of the creation of the Division of Career-Technical Education as nearly half hire those who require training in skilled trades,” Ferruso said. “Engaging school children earlier in the process to explore multiple graduation paths will allow them to find the path best suited for the individual, be it college or career, which is an important piece of this legislation. “NFIB expresses our appreciation to state Sen. Bill Reineke and Senate President Matt Huffman for their leadership on this important piece of education reform,” Ferruso said. “We look forward to working with the House of Representatives to continue progress on this bill.”
