House, Senate need to agree on final language
NFIB State Director Hunter Loggins today thanked the Georgia Senate for passing House Bill 1247, legislation that would help small businesses by reducing unnecessary regulatory burdens and increasing accountability in state government. It passed on a 48-2 vote.
“Small businesses often struggle with complicated rules and regulations that are issued with little legislative oversight and often crippling compliance costs,” Loggins said. “This measure, which was shepherded through the General Assembly by Rep. Matt Reeves, restores balance by ensuring the courts independently interpret the law rather than deferring to agency interpretations, giving small businesses a fairer opportunity to challenge regulatory overreach.”
HB 1247 also strengthens oversight of the rulemaking process by requiring agencies to consider the economic impact of new regulations on small businesses and encouraging them to reduce red tape whenever possible, he said.
“Small businesses don’t have the time or resources to keep up with complex and ever-changing mandates,” Loggins said. “HB 1247 brings balance, transparency, and accountability to the process and helps small business owners focus on growing their businesses, creating jobs, and serving their communities.”
NFIB is hopeful that Gov. Brian Kemp will move quickly to sign HB 1247 into law, he said.
