NFIB, Small Business Member Testify on Georgia's Truck Driver Shortage

NFIB State Director Hunter Loggins and member John John Sambdman, CEO of Samson Tours in Atlanta, testified on Wednesday, Aug. 30, before the state Senate Study Committee on Truck Driver Shortages. Loggins told the committee, “The U.S. has a shortage of 80,000 truck drivers, which is a 30% increase from before the pandemic.” And despite talk of self-driving vehicles, an estimated 100 million new drivers will be needed in the next decade, he said. Speaking via Zoom, Sambdman said, “The challenges we face as an industry have just become untenable, especially since the lockdown” because of excessive regulations and what he described as “nuclear verdicts” in lawsuits stemming from traffic accidents when the driver wasn’t 100% at fault.
