NFIB Releases 2021-2022 Voting Record: See How Your State Legislators Voted on Key Small Business Issues

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HARRISBURG, PA (September 7, 2022) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the state and nation’s leading small business advocacy association, today released its Pennsylvania State Voting Record for the 2021-22 legislative session. NFIB’s 2021-22 Pennsylvania Voting?Record scored 16 key?votes in the General Assembly?on issues of critical importance to the state’s small businesses, including tax relief and reform, regulatory relief, the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) scheme, and COVID-19 recovery efforts. Descriptions of NFIB’s key small business issues can be found HERE, along with the score of every member of the state Senate and House. “Our voting record is meant to show our members and the small business community whether their legislators support Pennsylvania’s job creators and our local economies, election-season rhetoric notwithstanding,” said Greg Moreland, NFIB’s Pennsylvania State Director. “Two hundred and fifty-three lawmakers sit in the Pennsylvania Senate and House, and this year’s report makes clear that far too many lawmakers voted against the small business position a majority of the time as Main Street continued to face unprecedented challenges and economic uncertainty.” “The latest national NFIB Optimism Index data show the number of small business owners expecting conditions to improve in the next six months is at the lowest levels it’s been since the 1970s, and we’re looking to the state legislature to step up and support Main Street businesses in Pennsylvania on issues like crushing and unfair pandemic-induced hikes in Unemployment Insurance rates and suffocating overregulation,” Moreland said. “On behalf of our thousands of members and struggling small business owners across the Commonwealth, I want to sincerely thank the legislators who time and again backed their words with action, voting in support of homegrown job creation every opportunity available to them,” Moreland continued. Twenty-eight members of the Senate and 103 lawmakers in the House voted with the pro-small-business position 100% of the time. Those Pennsylvania legislators scoring 100% on the 2021-22 Voting Record can be seen HERE. NFIB tracks key legislative issues identified by its small business members every session and then tabulates a score for each member of the General Assembly. The 2021-22 NFIB Pennsylvania Voting Record does not reflect all elements considered by a lawmaker when voting, nor does it represent a complete profile of a legislator, but it does provide information small businesses should consider when evaluating their legislator’s attitudes toward small businesses.
