NFIB Participates in Small Business Roundtable with Senator Braun

Sen. Braun met with owners to discuss the top small business issues

Senator Mike Braun met with NFIB members and Indiana small business owners earlier this month for a roundtable event to discuss the most pressing issues facing the small business community. Issues like ongoing rising costs, burdensome government regulations, and property tax reform were on the table as the Senator heard first-hand from small business owners across the state.

“It’s a great opportunity for both our members and for Senator Braun to have these conversations in person to get a real feel of what Indiana’s Main Street looks like and the challenges they’re facing,” said Natalie Robinson, NFIB Indiana State Director. “Senator Braun has been a great Senator for Indiana’s small businesses and the roundtable event was a success.”

As Indiana’s Senator, Sen. Braun co-sponsored legislation to stop a massive tax hike on small businesses next year. By making the Small Business Deduction permanent, small businesses can continue to take advantage of the 20% deduction and avoid a tax increase that will surely negatively impact their businesses.

NFIB LC member and small business owner Brad Rateike hosted the event at his business, 317 BBQ in Indianapolis. Rateike recently penned an op-ed in the Indianapolis Business Journal about his experience:

“This was a topic of discussion last week when I hosted the Indiana Chapter of the National Foundation of Independent Business. The diverse group of business owners focused less on state or federal partisan debate and more on discussing tangible policies affecting their livelihoods…We were privileged to have the opportunity to share these (small business) views and the subsequent inquiries with the likely next governor of our state, U.S. Sen. Mike Braun. It was a substance-focused discussion, dealing with issues a governor can impact.”

Concerned about the Small Business Deduction expiring? Contact your lawmakers and urge them to join Sen. Braun and support the Main Street Tax Certainty Act to make the Small Business Deduction permanent!
