NFIB Joins Business Groups to Launch Michigan Alliance for Legal Reform

November 12, 2025

The coalition will advocate for much-needed legal reform in Lansing

The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), Michigan’s leading small business advocacy organization, joined with a broad based coalition of business groups as a founding member of the newly launched Michigan Alliance for Legal Reform. The Alliance aims to achieve meaningful legal reform in the state to restore fairness and balance in Michigan’s legal system.

“Michigan has gone from being a beacon of legal reform to being named a ‘judicial hellhole’ by the American Tort Reform Association and small businesses are paying the price. The battle against lawsuit abuse is about protecting the backbone of Michigan’s economy – small businesses,” said NFIB Michigan State Director Amanda Fisher. “Our members have been increasingly concerned about the uptick in frivolous lawsuits due to recent court decisions. We are excited to work with the Alliance and policymakers to find real solutions and restore fairness and balance to Michigan’s judicial system.”

The Alliance’s members represent over 30 statewide associations and employers. The coalition will work towards advancing legislative solutions to lessen lawsuit abuse in the state and better protect Michigan’s small employers.
