NFIB Applauds Accelerated Sales Tax Repeal, Urges Governor to Sign Bill

NFIB State Director Dawn Starns released the following statement today concerning House Bill 1139, legislation repealing Mississippi’s accelerated sales tax:

“This is a huge victory for small businesses. Paying sales taxes to the state before your business actually sells anything is burdensome every year, but it’s especially rough when you’re trying to recover from the economic impact of the pandemic. Repealing the accelerated sales tax will relieve some of the financial burden on small businesses and won’t cost the state a dime. Small businesses will still send sales tax revenue to the state. What’s different is they won’t have to the revenue before they collect it, and that’s going to help hasten the state’s economic recovery.

“We hope Governor Reeves will sign the bill into law as soon as possible so Mississippi’s small businesses don’t have the dreaded advance payment due on June 25 this year.”
