New York State Gas Tax Holiday Now in Effect

Beginning June 1, 2022, New York State will suspend the state motor fuel tax (8 cents) and sales tax (8 cents), saving small businesses and consumers 16 cents per gallon. The state gas tax suspension is on both motor fuel and diesel fuel and will remain in effect through the end of the year. Many counties throughout New York State have also suspended or capped their gas tax to provide additional relief as gas prices rise.

The gas tax suspension was enacted as part of the enacted 2022-23 New York State Budget. NFIB was one of the strongest proponents of the gas tax suspension. While gas prices are at record highs, this modest tax relief is much needed.
