New Year Brings Higher Minimum Wage in Ohio

The minimum wage for non-tipped employees in Ohio increased from $9.30 to $10.10 per hour on Jan. 1. Base pay for tipped employees increased from $4.65 to $5.05 an hour. This increase was mandated by the 2006 state constitutional amendment that raises the state’s minimum wage each year based on the Consumer Price Index that increases it to meet inflation. The bump will bring a 40-hour workweek employee to $404, an increase of $32 per week over 2022. Ohio businesses with gross receipts of less than $372,000 in 2022, and for those workers under the age of 16, the minimum wage remains $7.25, which is the federal minimum wage. Remember: Employers are required to post the minimum wage and overtime information in an easily visible space, such as an employee break room, your HR office that is accessible to employees, or another common space. You can get a copy of the poster with the new 2023 minimum wage from the state of Ohio to display at your business.
