New Wage Equity Law Now in Effect
Last year, the Massachusetts legislature passed an expansion to the state’s pay equity laws that was later signed into law by Governor Maura Healey. Aside from a salary range requirement on job postings for businesses with more than twenty-five workers, it also includes a data reporting requirement for businesses with more than one hundred workers. While some business groups championed this legislation, NFIB consistently opposed the bill as more needlessly imposed government red tape.
The new reporting requirement means businesses with one hundred workers or more must submit their EEO-1 Report to the Commonwealth as well as to the Employment Opportunity Center by February 1, 2025. For more information and to learn where to submit this report, please visit the state’s website: Workforce Data Reporting FAQs | Mass.gov.
This data will be collected and aggregated so that no individual business’ information will be posted publicly. Additionally, the section of this law regarding salary ranges for job listings goes into effect on October 29, 2025.
NFIB is a member-driven organization advocating on behalf of small and independent businesses nationwide.
