State Director Eileen Kean testifies in Trenton against proposals for new Signage Mandate, Heat Stress Standard, Prevailing Wage, and Private Contractor Registration

NFIB state director has actively opposed harmful legislation being considered in the New Jersey Legislature over the past seven weeks of the new session.

[ARTICLE UPDATED MARCH 14, 2025]

Kean testified before the New Jersey Assembly Consumer Affairs Committee on January 27th opposing newly introduced signage legislation.

Under the bill, A-4636, every business that sells gift cards would be required to display a notice near where the cards are for sale, cautioning consumers about gift card fraud. Kean explained that not every location has a conspicuous manner to post a notice as they are already inundated with requirements. Also, she pointed out that the civil penalty fee of $1,000 is ridiculously steep and would amount to a significant burden on small businesses.

On February 20th, State Director Kean provided testimony against A-5022, which would require a Mandated Heat-Related Injury Plan: Read the testimony HERE.

On March 3rd, State Director Kean provided testimony against S-3187, which would create Criminal Penalties for Prevailing Wage Violation: Read the testimony HERE.

On March 3rd, State Director Kean provided testimony against S-2963, the “New Jersey Private Contractor Registration Act”: Read the testimony HERE.
