Missouri Minimum Wage Hike ‘Isn’t Helping’ the Inflationary Environment

January 12, 2024 Last Edit: July 18, 2024

Missouri job creators need more support from state lawmakers this legislative session.

In a conversation with KRCG Channel 13, NFIB State Director Brad Jones discussed what small business owners are hoping to see from the 2024 legislative session amid a challenging economic environment.

When asked about the recent increase in the minimum wage, which took effect on January 1, 2024, Jones warned it’ll worsen inflation, which has returned as the top business problem on Main Street.

“Raising the minimum wage isn’t helping the situation,” Jones said. “It certainly isn’t going to do anything to bring down inflation. I think a lot of small businesses are probably paying that. I think you’re also seeing that when you go to the grocery store, go out to eat or you buy a new pair of jeans.”
