Michigan Small Businesses Urge State Senate to Take Quick Action on Changes to the Earned Sick Time Act

NFIB’s Amanda Fisher advocated for important changes to the ESTA

NFIB Michigan State Director Amanda Fisher testified today before the Michigan Senate Regulatory Affairs Committee on SB 15, legislation that would make crucial changes to the Earned Sick Time Act (ESTA) before the law goes into effect on Feb. 21, 2025.

“Michigan small business owners know time is running out for the Legislature to make crucial changes including a small business exemption in the earned sick time law before another costly expense increases,” said Amanda Fisher, NFIB Michigan State Director. “The current legislation is a confusing administrative burden on small business owners, especially those who handle their HR tasks themselves and are trying to comply with the bill’s language. We appreciate the desire to lessen this burden on Michigan’s small employers and urge the Senate to act quickly on a small business exemption in the ESTA.”

NFIB applauded the State House for passing legislation that made critical changes to the earned sick time and tipped wages for servers’ laws.
