State House Items: Notable Legislation

Legislation is still being printed as lawmakers make up for a slow start in January and February with now scheduling dozens of bills for hearings and work sessions.

  • Amendment to the Constitution of Maine to Allow Municipalities to Apportion Real and Personal Property Taxes on the Basis of Property Classification (LD 432)
  • Providing a Refundable Tax Credit to Certain Businesses to Offset Credit and Debit Card Transaction Fees (LD 1504)
  • Amendment to the Constitution of Maine to Require a Supermajority of the Legislature to Approve Raising Taxes (LD 1535)
  • Eliminate the Property Tax on Business Equipment With a Value of No More Than $50,000 (LD 1603)
  • Amendment to the Constitution of Maine to Apportion Differentiated Tax Rates on Real Property According to Use (LD 1610)
  • Lower the Exclusion Amount for the Estate Tax and Create an Exclusion for Family Farms and Aquaculture, Fishing and Wood Harvesting Businesses (LD 1617)
  • Allow Municipalities to Implement a Local Option Sales Tax (LD 1641)
  • Establish a Pilot Project to Facilitate the Inclusion of Economic Impact Statements in the Legislative Process (LD 1673)
  • Increase Fairness in the Income Tax by Adding Higher Tax Brackets and Tax Rates (LD 1682)
  • Amend the Paid Family and Medical Leave Benefits Program to Balance Support of Businesses and Employees (LD 1712)
  • Ensure Transparency in Consumer Transactions Involving Artificial Intelligence (LD 1727)
  • Enact the Maine Climate Superfund Act (LD 1808)
