Last Call: Take Action Now Before Session Adjourns!

Last Call: Take Action Now Before Session Adjourns!

February 17, 2026

The Indiana General Assembly is set to adjourn on Feb. 27

Lawmakers have one full week left of the 2026 legislative session and are expected to take up bills significant to small business owners. Notably, NFIB is strongly advocating meaningful legal reform and preserving the Small Business Tax Exemption for Indiana’s small businesses. Take a look at our mid-session small business update for a more detailed analysis of the legislation we’re tracking.

Legal Reform

NFIB supports House Bill 1417, legislation that addresses excessive tort costs and would lower the number of frivolous lawsuits in the state. The bill passed out of the House in a 61-34 vote and has moved to the Senate. TAKE ACTION: tell your lawmaker NOW to pass this important legal reform bill before the session ends!

Small Business Tax Exemption

Small business owners are at risk of losing their business personal property (BPP) savings and now is the last chance for owners to tell their lawmaker to save this important exemption. The BPP tax can be applied to items like equipment, office furniture, tools, and computers. TAKE ACTION: contact your legislators now and tell them to take your tax savings off the table – you deserve to keep more of your hard-earned money!
