Keep the Spirit of Small Business Saturday Going Throughout the Season

U.S. shoppers spent an estimated $17.9 billion at independent shops and restaurants this Small Business Saturday, a sum well above the $9.12 billion shoppers spent online on Black Friday and the record $11.3 billion people spent online on Cyber Monday. On top of that, a survey by American Express found that 72% of shoppers strongly agree they’ll continue to support local businesses throughout the holiday season because of the impact local businesses have on the community. Our hope is that small business owners succeed in turning these seasonal shoppers into regular customers who’ll continue to shop small and support local businesses throughout the coming year. American Express says 68 cents of every dollar spent at a small business stays in the community and creates an additional 48 cents in business activity as small business owners and employees shop and dine in the community.
