NIFB Urges Governor to Pass Legislation to Help Struggling Small Businesses

Kansas Small Business Thanks Senate for Passing Important Reforms

NFIB, an association representing thousands of small and independently owned businesses in Kansas, applauds the House for passing important reforms for small business owners. The House bill provides additional property tax transparency to already struggling small business owners.

Here’s why small business owners across the state are excited about this legislation: it would prohibit local governments from passing a tax rate that is higher than what that local government calculated as “neutral.” Under this bill, if he local government increased that tax rate, they would be required to let the tax payers in their area know about that increase.

In our most recent Small Business Problems and Priorities, NFIB found that tax related issues continue to be significant problems for small business owners. Small business owners not only find current rates a burden but equally problematic are the complexity of tax compliance and the frequency of changes in tax laws.

NFIB encourages the governor to pass this important legislation. Small business owners here in Kansas feel that it is a commonsense fix to address their concerns about high tax rates and the lack of transparency. Any way that we can let our hard-working entrepreneurs know about potential hikes to their taxes is another opportunity for those small business owners to instead focus on hiring, expanding, and creating jobs in Kansas.
