Initial Look Indiana's Primary Results

This Tuesday, voters went to the polls across Indiana to elect the candidates who will be competing in our November elections. While the majority of incumbent lawmakers prevailed, redistricting, open seats and a push by Indiana conservatives hoping to push the state Legislature further to the right made a few waves in the primaries. In the 50^th House District, Lorissa Sweet (R), defeated incumbent Rep. Dan Leonard (R) of Huntington. Rep. John Jacob (R) was not so lucky in the 93^rd District, getting ousted by Julie McGuire. Rep. John Young (R) faced the same fate in the 47^th, losing to Robb Greene. Redistricting forced some state legislators to face off against each other. In the 22^nd House District, Rep. Craig Snow (R) defeated Rep. Curt Nisly (R). Similarly, in the 45^th, Rep. Bruce Borders (R) was successful over Rep. Jeff Ellington (R). Dem. Andrea Hunley prevailed in a crowded field for the newly created Senate District 46 in the heart of Indianapolis. Becky Cash (R) also won new House District 25 in Boone and Hendricks counties that featured strong challengers. The House District 32 seat Republican primary winner still was not known as of 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4. It’s a still a close race with Fred Glynn (R) in the lead and Suzie Jaworowski (R) trailing closely behind. You can find a full list of the state election results here. On the federal side of things, former Sen. Erin Houchin won the crowded Republican Primary to compete in the 9^th Congressional District that Rep. Trey Hollingworth is vacating. She will go up against teacher Matt Fyfe in the General Election. In the Northwestern part of the state, Jennifer-Ruth Green beat out multiple GOP challengers in IN-01 and will get to face off against Rep. Frank Mrvan (D) in November. Senator Todd Young (R) ran unopposed, securing the nomination to run for re-election in the Fall. As election season progresses, the NFIB will continue to report on our work and will release endorsements for the general election in November.
