Illinois Tax Collections are up more than $1.5 Billion through December

Year-to-date state tax receipts are up over $1.5 billion through first half of the fiscal year

Illinois tax collections climbed 6.1% year-over-year during the first half of fiscal year 26 (FY26), according to the Illinois Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (CGFA).

Per a report published by CGFA, state tax collections through December are up $1.579 billion year-over-year from FY25.

Federal transfers are down $33 million (-1.6%) for the same time period, resulting in overall increase of $1.546 billion (5.6%).

Closing out the first half of FY26:

–  Personal income tax collections are up $592 million (4.2%)

–  Corporate income tax collections are down $183 million (-6.8%)

–  Sales tax collections are up $305 million (5.1%)

–  Estate (death) tax collections are up $174 million (54.2%)

–  Insurance tax and fee collections are up $64 million (27.0%)

–  Lottery collections are up $41 million (11.2%)

–  Gaming tax collections are up $51 million (56.0%)

–  Sports wagering tax collections are up $97 million (190.2%)

New taxes on leased property and sports wagering, among other things, are contributing to the higher totals, along with a one-time tax amnesty program.
