Maryland Department of Labor proposed delayed implementation of the program

Last week, the Maryland Department of Labor proposed delaying the implementation of the Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program. The delay will require legislative action by the General Assembly, but the department is recommending the following implementation plan:

• Payroll deductions begin Jan. 1, 2027
• Benefits become available on Jan. 1, 2028

The Department of Labor is pausing any announced regulatory timelines for FAMLI, including the process for applying to use a private plan submitting wage and hour reports.
