UIA provides key information on key unemployment law changes
The Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) launched this webpage to help small business employers, third-party administrators, and workers navigate key unemployment law changes going into effect in mid-July.
These new laws will affect how people on unemployment qualify for benefits, can appeal cases, and apply for relief from returning benefits they improperly collected. A snapshot of upcoming changes for those who receive benefits include:
- Claimants must report 3 work searches each week.
- New protections for domestic violence survivors.
- More flexibility in Work Share programs.
- Streamlined appeal process.
- More chances to apply for hardship waivers.
