The bill is awaiting action in the state Senate
House Passes Labor-Training Mandate Over Small Business Objections
On June 21, the state Ohio of Representatives House Bill 205 by a vote of 64-30. The measure, which was key-voted and strongly opposed by NFIB, would inject state government into the employer-employee relationship. The measure is now pending in the Senate.
“House Bill 205 calls for government-mandated training requirements and hiring quotas for certain Ohio businesses,” Ferruso said. “Our small business members don’t think the government should dictate who a private business can and can’t hire,” he said. “These decisions should be left to the individual employer, not the government that’s trying to apply a one-size-fits-all solution to a ‘problem’ that doesn’t really exist.
“As passed by the House, HB205 is limited in scope, but it would set a dangerous precedent for every industry in the state,” Ferruso said.
“By ‘key-voting’ HB205, we’re reminding House members that small business owners overwhelmingly oppose this overreaching legislation and that we’ll report each and every vote on this bill to our members, their constituents,” he said.
