House Delivers Small Business Victory: Passes Texas Regulatory Consistency Act

On Wednesday, the House passed Rep. Dustin Burrows’ (R-Lubbock) and Sen. Brandon Creighton’s (R-Flower Mound) Texas Regulatory Consistency Act (HB 2127 / SB 814) which prevents cities and municipalities from enacting labor and employment regulations, like predictive scheduling and paid leave, and restricting the use of gas-powered motors. Under the bill, cities would retain their authority to address local concerns while providing regulatory consistency for small business owners. In an interview with McAllen’s Sergio Sanchez, NFIB State Director Annie Spilman described why local job creators support the bill, saying: “Our small business owners…they’re being resilient, but to have their own local government working against them in many cases, there’s only so much that a small business can handle to keep their doors open and their workers employed.” CLICK HERE to listen to the full interview. Now the bill heads to the Senate for debate and consideration. Along with our members, NFIB has testified before House and Senate committee hearings urging lawmakers to support HB 2127 / SB 814.
