Governor Abbott Promotes Free Market Solution For Electric Vehicle Charger Industry

Free market principles have built the Texas economy, unleashing a new generation of energy resources. As more drivers make the switch to electric vehicles (EV), it’s clear Texas needs a reliable, convenient, and customer-driven EV charging market. Governor Abbott has signed SB 1002/HB 3508 into law, which allows for free market competition and improved price transparency and service for Texas consumers by:
  • Restricting electric transmission, and distribution utilities from using ratepayer funds to subsidize their own EV charging stations.
  • Requiring any utility that does offer EV charging to only do so through a separate subsidiary.
This law levels the playing field and encourages a competitive market. Small business owners applaud Governor Abbott and the Texas Legislature for making it easier to invest in the next generation of technology.
