DeSantis Signs Bill Stopping Local Government Overreach

April 11, 2024 Last Edit: July 25, 2024

The measure prevents a patchwork of local and sometimes contradictory rules and regulations

NFIB State Director Bill Herrle released the following statement in response to Gov. Ron DeSantis’s signing of House Bill 433, legislation protecting the right of small businesses and other employers to run their own businesses:

“Running a small business is never easy, but it’s even harder when owners have to contend with a patchwork of local and sometimes contradictory rules and regulations. Big corporations can afford to hire compliance officers to ensure they follow every ordinance in every city and county where they do businesses. Small business owners don’t have the time or the resources to navigate a confusing and contradictory array of local ordinances that go beyond the state already mandates.

“House Bill 433 protects small businesses from ‘gotcha’ regulations that do little but create confusion and uncertainty. On behalf of our small business members, I want to thank the Florida Legislature and Governor DeSantis for stopping local governments from overplaying their regulatory hand and helping create a stable environment where owners can grow their businesses.”
