Dept. of Revenue Announces Important Changes

October 3, 2025

NFIB draws its members’ attention to agency’s latest bulletin

There were permanent changes made to the Voluntary Disclosure Program that began September 1.

And on October 1, sales taxes were applied to several services that were previously not taxed (ESSB 5814).

These were two of the bigger announcements made by state Department of Revenue in its latest bulletin sent October 3. NFIB highly encourages its members to give it a look.

On the Voluntary Disclosure Program, the department invites small business owners to see if they qualify under the new eligibility criteria. “Qualified businesses may avoid up to 39% in penalties,” says the department.

And on the sales tax update, the department offers resources to help small business owners prepare for their new October 1 obligation. “Starting Oct. 1, 2025, sales tax applies to several services that were previously not taxed (ESSB 5814). If your business provides any of the services … we want to help you get ready.”
