Connecticut Residents Encouraged to Shop Small During Tax-Free Week

Ahead of the Sales Tax Holiday, NFIB Connecticut is encouraging consumers to shop small. The sales tax holiday, which begins this Sunday, August 18th and runs through Saturday, August 24th, is a great opportunity to support local businesses. “When you shop locally, more of your hard-earned dollars stay within the community,” NFIB State Director Andy Markowski said. “Main Street is the backbone of our economy, creating good-paying jobs and supporting charitable organizations that keep our communities thriving. We hope that consumers will turn to local small businesses for all their shopping needs during this sales tax holiday.” During this coming week, the usual 6.35% state sales tax will not be charged on sales or purchases of most items of clothing or footwear costing less than $100 per item, and the exemption applies to each regardless of how many of those items are sold to a customer on the same invoice. “By shopping on Main Street, consumers are supporting their local communities, while saving tax dollars, taking advantage of additional promotions, and discovering superb customer service” added Markowski. According to the Connecticut Department of Revenue Services, the 2024 Tax Holiday begins at 12:01 AM ET on Sunday, August 18th, and concludes Saturday, August 24th at midnight.
