Bill Setting Reimbursement Rates for Ambulances Would Hurt Small Businesses

Bill Setting Reimbursement Rates for Ambulances Would Hurt Small Businesses

February 14, 2024 Last Edit: June 5, 2025

NFIB testified in opposition to the measure

NFIB State Director Natalie Robinson went before the Senate Insurance and Financial Institutions Committee on Feb. 14 to oppose House Bill 1385.

If passed and signed into law, the measure would enshrine into law a reimbursement rate for ambulance services that is 500% above the Medicare reimbursement rate.

“This legislation will disproportionately impact small employers as the rate increase only impacts fully insured plans,” Robinson said.

“While we sympathize with the financial struggles EMTs are experiencing, we oppose HB1385 because of the costs it would shift to small businesses,” Robinson said. “We need to reduce healthcare costs for small businesses, not raise them.” Click here to read her written testimony.
