A Legislative Look at the 2022 Session

As the New Year begins, here’s a look back at some key achievements … and a few defeats … in 2021, and a look at the year ahead. Our “Legislative Year in Review” is available here if you’re curious about some of the key legislative and regulatory battles NFIB waged on your behalf during the past 12 months. From winning a B&O tax exemption for PPP loans to securing $500 million to shore up the Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund to defeating another tax on health insurance policies to pushing back on Gov. Jay Inslee’s executive orders, NFIB has been in the thick of pandemic-related issues as well as other efforts that affect your ability to own, operate, and grow your business. We value your investment in NFIB and work hard to ensure the Voice of Small Business – your voice – is heard in the Legislature, in the Governor’s Office and executive agencies, and in the courts. For the 2022 legislative session, which begins January 10, NFIB is:

exploring a constitutional amendment to increase and expand the personal property tax exemption on business assets
looking for opportunities to include commercial and industrial parcels in property tax relief proposals
and working to at least delay, if not repeal, the “WA Cares” long-term services and supports payroll tax.

In addition, we will continue our ongoing efforts to protect small employers from unnecessary and excessive labor and workplace regulations; improve access to quality, affordable health insurance and medical care; and balance environmental protection with a robust economy.
