87 of the 91 legislative candidates endorsed by the NFIB Tennessee PAC claimed victory

Small businesses fared very well in last week’s general election in Tennessee.

Of the 91 endorsed candidates by the NFIB Tennessee PAC, 87 claimed victory – 74 in Tennessee’s House of Representatives and 13 in the state Senate. We believe this is an all-time high success rate of 96% for our state PAC.

Some federal elections have yet to be called, but the NFIB FED PAC success rate was around 82% as of today. We want to thank the many NFIB members who supported our state and federal PAC’s.

Twenty-seven NFIB members won their state election or reelection last Tuesday, the highest total in the nation. The General Assembly is welcoming 12 freshmen, including NFIB members Renea Jones in House District 4 and Bobby Harshbarger in Senate District 4.

Both political parties spent heavily on multiple campaigns, seeking to flip a few seats. But in the end, the numbers stayed the same – 75 Republicans and 24 Democrats in the House and 27 Republicans and six in the Senate. Republicans kept super-majorities in both chambers.

Gov. Bill Lee, an NFIB member, will serve the last two years of his second term. The 114th General Assembly will convene Tuesday, Jan. 14.

Federal Numbers

At the federal level, President Trump carried Tennessee by nearly a two-to-one margin. Similarly, Senator Marsha Blackburn, who was endorsed by the NFIB FED PAC, won very easily over challenger Gloria Johnson.

All eight FED PAC-endorsed congressional candidates in Tennessee won handily. NFIB member Diana Harshbarger in Congressional District 1 (East Tennessee) won by the largest margin (78%-19%), while NFIB member John Rose in CD 6 (Middle Tennessee) won with 68% of the vote.

Republicans will have control of the White House and Senate and quite possibly the House starting next January.
