New York "Unpauses" Congestion Pricing

New York is set to become the first city in the country to implement a “congestion pricing” toll. In June, Governor Hochul paused the program, which would charge vehicles every time they enter the “Congestion Relief Zone,” after experiencing pushback from businesses, business organizations, including NFIB, and commuters.

The revised plan will now institute a $9 toll for passenger vehicles, a $14.40 toll for small trucks and charter buses, and a $21.60 toll for larger trucks and tourist buses traveling in Manhattan, below 60th street between 5 AM and 9 PM on weekdays and 9 AM and to 9 PM on weekends.

The plan was created to generate funds for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA)’s capital plan, while easing traffic and reducing pollution in central Manhattan.
