NFIB State Director: Small Business Need Help to Overcome COVID-19 Pandemic

Small Business Owners to Nebraska Legislature: We Need You to Lower Taxes

NFIB, the National Federation of Independent Business here in Nebraska, is urging lawmakers to pass sensible legislation that would reduce the tax burden on our small businesses who are already suffering from the continuing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. NFIB, which represents thousands of small business owners across the state, supports Legislative Bill 949, which is being considered by the legislature right now. The bill would reduce income tax rates for small business owners gradually over the next few years.

According to a recent NFIB survey, a historic number of small businesses are struggling to increase their workforce. Half of all small business owners have reported raising compensation, up two points from December and a 48-year record high. Open positions are at record levels. About half of small businesses say they have already raised wages to hire workers and other 27% plan to in the next 3 months.

State Director Bob Hallstorm has testified in support of this important bill that would impact small business owners across Nebraska.

“Nebraska’s income tax rates right now are one of the highest amongst our other Midwest states,” said Bob Hallstrom, NFIB State Director in Nebraska. “If we would like to be competitive and attract small business owners who attract and create jobs in our state, then we need to pass this legislation.

While Nebraska has been fortunate to not experience as man shutdowns and mandates as other states across the country, our small business owners are still suffering. This legislation is something simple that lawmakers can do it make it a little bit easier for our small businesses to thrive.”
