How 20% Small Business Deduction Permanence Provides Certainty

How 20% Small Business Deduction Permanence Provides Certainty

June 29, 2026

NFIB member Michael Ervin interviewed about small business economy

What it means: NFIB member and small business owner Michael Ervin joined NewsNation to discuss the small business economy, challenges his business is facing, and ways Congress can provide certainty.

Our take: Following Congress’ action to make the 20% Small Business Tax Deduction permanent last year, small business owners were given tax certainty and the confidence to invest back into their business and employees. Congress should further increase the deduction to help level the playing field for small businesses.

Take Action: Let members of Congress know how your business utilized the tax savings from the Small Business Deduction with a short, one minute video.

Inflationary pressures and taxes are top concerns for small business owners in today’s economy. During an interview with Markie Martin on NewsNation, NFIB member and small business owner Michael Ervin discussed how his business is navigating economic challenges and actions Congress can take to improve certainty on Main Street.

While making the Small Business Deduction permanent last year stopped a massive tax hike on small business, Congress can increase the deduction to 23% to help level the playing field for small businesses against their larger competitors. This additional breathing room will allow small business owners to boost their investments in their employees, businesses, and communities.

Watch the full interview for insight on how small business owners are handling rising costs for their businesses.
