NFIB’s Workplace Safety in a Violent World webinar discusses how to secure your business and prevent violence in the workplace. The special guest was Carol Dodgen of Dodgen Security Consulting, LLC. Her company provides services including training, ATM lighting inspections, and security assessments to financial institutions, government entities, and businesses. She joined NFIB Small Business Legal Center Executive Director Elizabeth Milito in a webinar to discuss the many challenges businesses face when it comes to preventing and deterring workplace violence. “There are so many challenges small businesses face,” said Dodgen. “The anticipation, recognition, and appraisal of a crime risk and the initiation of some action will remove or reduce risk.” The webinar discussed numerous topics, including:

Understanding the types of workplace violence
Warning signs/pre-incident indicators
Reporting incident information
Counseling and defusing
Handling disciplinary actions, including terminations
Triggering events
Creating policies and procedures
