Although Texas lawmakers are continuing to hammer out a deal on tax reform during the special session, the regular 88th Legislative Session adjourned late last month with several victories for small business owners. NFIB State Director Annie Spilman hosted a webinar with Texas small business owners to discuss the 2023 legislative session and answer questions. WATCH: NFIB Texas Legislative Session Wrap-Up Webinar A handful of the small business victories discussed during the webinar include…
  • The Texas Regulatory Consistency Act which will help small business owners better comply with regulations, rather than being burdened by the complexity of multiple jurisdictions of law over their business practices.
  • The Creation of Business Courts to handle complex litigation and give small business owners greater confidence in our legal system.
  • Market-Based Family Leave to strengthen Texas businesses’ ability to recruit talent, compete, and grow. This market-based approach is not a mandate and lets employers choose whether they want to offer it as a benefit for their employees.
Following the event, Spilman said: “We’re grateful for our members who take time out of their busy schedules to contact their lawmakers, speak with the media, and engage their community. Here in Austin, we’re fighting on their behalf to make sure there’s not a single sentence in the bills that are filed that would hurt our small business owners.” CLICK HERE for a summary of the legislative session.
