Register for Aug. 15 Workers’ Comp Meeting: Working with Physicians The state REWARD Employers Support Network’s next meeting will be Aug. 15 in Murfreesboro. The speaker will be Dr. James Talmage, assistant medical director for the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, who will talk about how employers can better work with the physicians who are caring for their injured employees to help them return to work sooner. The meeting will be 9:45-11 a.m. at the Embassy Suites Conference Center. Click here to learn more or register. Grants for Adult Changing Tables The Department of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities is making available grant funding for up to 200 adult changing tables. The grants will provide funds for facilities open to the public, such as parks, recreation centers, malls, and restaurants. Private and municipal entities can use the funds to purchase and install powered, height-adjustable, adult-sized changing tables for single-occupancy family restrooms. Applicants may submit requests for funding up to $5,000 per table. Those wishing to apply must be either private or municipal entities within the state of Tennessee, and the funding must be used for facilities that are open to the public within the state. The Tennessee General Assembly approved $1 million in funding for adult changing tables after hearing about this important need from members of the Tennessee Council on Developmental Disabilities. Haley Named Workers’ Comp Administrator Governor Bill Lee announced that Troy Haley will replace Abbie Hudgens as administrator of the Tennessee Bureau of Workers’ Compensation. NFIB appreciates the great work Hudgens did to improve the program since arriving in 2010 and congratulates Haley on a well-deserved promotion. The Bureau also released a comprehensive annual report with a look back at the efficacy of the 2013 reforms and a look forward at what could be addressed. Three NFIB members – Southern Champion Tray in Chattanooga, McKee Foods in Collegedale and Comfort Keepers in Memphis – are quoted in the informative report.
