Small Business Coalition Urges Congress to Reduce Red Tape

Small Business Coalition Urges Congress to Reduce Red Tape

February 2, 2024 Last Edit: July 17, 2024

NFIB joins coalition letter requesting legislative action to strengthen the RFA

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Feb. 2, 2024) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation’s leading small business advocacy organization, sent a letter to leaders of the House Committee on Small Business and the House Committee on the Judiciary requesting legislative action to strengthen the input of small businesses in federal regulatory processes.

“Small businesses continue to be disproportionately impacted by federal regulations. Now is the time for Congress to address the loopholes that enable federal agencies to underreport, minimize, or ignore the impact of regulations on small businesses,” said NFIB Director of Government Relations Josh McLeod. “On behalf of small businesses across the country, NFIB urges Congress to prioritize legislation that reinforces the intent of the Regulatory Flexibility Act (RFA) and encourages an environment where Main Street businesses can grow and thrive.”

NFIB’s Small Business Legal Center released a White Paper on the RFA titled, “The Regulatory Flexibility Act: Turning a Paper Tiger into a Legitimate Constraint on One-Size-Fits-All Agency Rulemaking,” which explored the importance of the Regulatory Flexibility Act (RFA), the lack of RFA compliance by administrative agencies, and what today’s Congress can do to reinvigorate the RFA.
