Pennsylvania Courts Named Worst “Judicial Hellholes” in Country

Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and Pennsylvania Supreme Court rank at the top of Hellholes list

NFIB Pennsylvania State Director Greg Moreland released a statement following the American Tort Reform Foundation’s annual “Judicial Hellholes” report, which named Pennsylvania the worst “Judicial Hellholes” in the nation.

“Small business owners are not surprised to see Pennsylvania at the top of this list. There is no doubt that Pennsylvanians need meaningful reform to stop lawsuit abuse and help protect small businesses from predatory practices and litigation. Small employers are already facing countless economic struggles, and this report highlights the judicial burden Pennsylvania employers have against pro-trial litigators looking out for their own personal interests.”

The report named the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and the Pennsylvania Supreme Court the worst Judicial Hellholes in the country. This is the 12th year Pennsylvania jurisdictions were named Judicial Hellholes.

Data reveals that Pennsylvania residents pay an annual “tort tax” of more than $1,431, while more than 171,000 jobs are lost each year due to excessive tort costs.
