Lawmakers Agree on Much-Needed Workers’ Comp Reform

Lawmakers Agree on Much-Needed Workers’ Comp Reform

May 29, 2026

The House and Senate agreed on final language on Friday

NFIB State Director Leah Long today thanked the Louisiana House and Senate for working together to pass a final version of Senate Bill 408, legislation that would modernize the state’s workers’ compensation system and help reduce costs for small businesses.

“Our workers’ comp system hasn’t seen a major update in decades,” Long said. “This legislation takes important steps to create a more balanced system that supports injured workers while helping employers manage rising costs. That means small business owners can spend more time growing their businesses, creating jobs, and serving their communities.”

Long said the legislation would help streamline the workers’ compensation process, reduce unnecessary disputes, and bring Louisiana more in line with neighboring states.

“Small businesses want to do right by their employees when injuries occur,” Long said. “This bill preserves those protections while making the system more efficient and predictable for everyone involved. Our members thank Sen. Brach Myers for sponsoring this important bill, and they’re asking Gov. Jeff Landry to act quickly to sign SB 408 into law.”
