Higher fuel costs drive up costs for everything from raw materials to finished goods

Gas Prices Fall, but Inflation Remains an Issue for Georgia Small Businesses

NFIB State Director Nathan Humphrey says Georgia small business owners deeply appreciated Gov. Brian Kemp’s decision to extend the state’s suspension of the fuel tax until Aug. 13. “Gas prices in the state continue to drop, but prices are still a lot higher than they were a year ago, and that’s driving up the cost of practically everything,” Humphrey said. According to AAA, the average gas price in Georgia reached a record of $4.499 a gallon on June 15. The average price on Tuesday was $4.012 a gallon, down $4.162 a week earlier and $4.475 a month ago. It was $2.974 on Tuesday’s date a year earlier. “Suspending the state fuel tax immediately eases some of the financial pressure on Georgians, including small business owners, which is exactly what we need considering the impact inflation is having on the U.S. economy,” Humphrey said.
