State’s Leading Small Business Group Endorses Proposition 36

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: John Kabateck, California State Director, 916-956-9027, john@kabstrat.com or Tony Malandra, Senior Media Manager, 415-640-5156, anthony.malandra@nfib.org SACRAMENTO, Calif., July 10, 2024—The state’s leading small-business association today announced its endorsement of Proposition 36 on the November 5 General Election ballot. “Small businesses are the most common and vulnerable victims of retail theft crimes and are the least able to defend themselves,” said John Kabateck, California state director for the National Federation of Independent Business in announcing NFIB’s endorsement of Proposition 36, The Homelessness, Drug Addiction, and Theft Reduction Act. “Proposition 36 addresses retail theft head-on by providing a way for law enforcement to go after criminals who are using the current law as a loophole to repeatedly commit smaller crimes that add up to devastating costs for small businesses and by protecting owners from criminals who are severely vandalizing mom-and-pop shops. Prop 36’s holistic approach to combat theft, along with its other provisions to address the deteriorating quality of life across California, will greatly improve the safety of our communities.” More information is available from the Californians Against Retail and Residential Theft coalition NFIB is part of as well as the VOTE YES on Prop 36 website.
