Small Businesses to New Mexico Legislature: Oppose Costly Mandates

January 21, 2025

NFIB New Mexico calls on the Legislature to oppose costly mandates, prioritize economic growth.

SANTA FE (Jan. 21, 2025) – With the New Mexico Legislature convening its session today, NFIB State Director Jason Espinoza urged state lawmakers to oppose policy proposals that would make it harder for small business owners to operate in the state.

“While small business owners feel more certain about future business conditions, inflation continues to take a toll on Main Street and their employees. Our members want lawmakers to reject any policy proposal that would increase their costs or add more red tape – including an ambiguous paid family medical leave mandate. This session, lawmakers must keep the challenges our small businesses are facing in mind and promote greater economic opportunity.”

In December, Espinoza outlined several opportunities for pro-small business reforms and potential challenges that could increase the cost of doing business in New Mexico. CLICK HERE to view.

In a 2023 NFIB New Mexico member ballot, 89% of small business owners opposed the creation of a paid family and medical leave mandate.
