Small Businesses Applaud Gov. Pillen’s Tax Relief Proposal

LINCOLN (Jan. 18, 2023) – The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) here in Nebraska applauds Governor Pillen’s tax relief proposal, which would provide meaningful relief for small businesses and individuals. Describing how tax cuts would make small businesses in Nebraska more competitive, NFIB State Director Bob Hallstrom said: “Small businesses, who continue to battle raging inflation and a worker shortage, will be very encouraged by the governor’s tax relief proposal for the 2023 legislative session,” Hallstrom said. “These tax cuts not only will make it easier to do business in Nebraska but make us competitive with neighboring states. With more than half of small business owners anticipating worsening conditions in the next six months, Gov. Pillen’s commitment to cutting taxes couldn’t come at a better time. We’ll continue to work with the legislature to make tax relief a reality.” Background: State Sen. Lou Ann Linehan (Omaha) is introducing a bill to cut the top individual and corporate income tax rates to 3.99 percent by 2027. The reduction of the individual and corporate income rates would be phased in gradually over five years, and provide an estimated $720 million in relief.
