Small Business Saturday: Shop Locally & Support Your Community!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TRENTON, NJ (Nov. 22, 2023) – Small Business Saturday will be coming to your local Main Street on November 25th this year. The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is encouraging all New Jerseyans to get out and support the businesses in their communities during this holiday season and every season. Small Business Saturday is an annual event that celebrates small businesses and encourages consumers to shop locally during the kickoff of the holiday shopping season. Falling annually on the first Saturday after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday is the perfect day for consumers to shop local and support the small businesses that are essential to their communities. “New Jersey’s small businesses have needed to navigate extremely difficult economic conditions for years now,” said NFIB New Jersey State Director Eileen Kean. “From forced shut-downs during the pandemic to historic inflation, supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, and rising energy prices, Main Street has weathered unrelenting challenges and is in desperate need of support from shoppers this holiday season. New Jerseyans should spend their hard-earned money at small, independent businesses – the engines that drive our state’s economy and keep our local communities vibrant.” According to a recent Small Business Economic Trends (SBET) survey by NFIB, small businesses are not feeling optimistic in the current economic environment, with 22 percent reporting inflation as their single most important problem.[1] Small Business Saturday has been held the weekend after Thanksgiving since it was created eleven years ago following the 2009 recession. The event gained in popularity and in 2022 Americans spent $17.9 billion on Small Business Saturday, according to a survey facilitated by NFIB.
