Dawson wrapped up the 2023 legislative session for small business owners.
Senator Dawson Talks Taxes at NFIB Roundtable in Council Bluffs
On August 23, NFIB members gathered at Midlands Living Center in Council Bluffs for one of several annual round table events. The roundtables are a great oppotunity for small business owners to hear from their legislators and to ask their lawmakers what issues they support and how they will support small business issues at the Capitol.

From the left, NFIB State Director Matt Everson, Sen. Dan Dawson, and Chris Hagenow, Iowans for Tax Relief address a crowd of about 15 small business owners in Council Bluffs.
About 15 small business owners attended the roundtable and listened to Senator Dan Dawson talk about all the work this year that legislators did to pass a personal income tax cut for Iowans. That includes reforming the entire income tax system in the state and lowering the flat tax rate to 3.9% by 2026. Last year the legislature started addressing and reshaping how property taxes are calculated and collected and Dawson anticipates more structural reforms again during the 2024 legislative session – “fixing the foundation and working our way up.”
Dawson also said that additional tax cuts in the future looks promising as well. The legislature will look at Accelerating, Lower and Eliminating (ALE) Iowa’s income taxes beyond 2026.
“We thank Senator Dawson for joining NFIB and ITR members in council bluffs, IA. Senator Dawson is a true leader on reforming Iowa’s outdated and burdensome tax code. Home again, he reiterated in Council Bluffs his commitment to Iowa small business and Iowa’s taxpayer and says the work has just begun, “ said Matt Everson, NFIB State Director in Iowa.
