Also, state offering help in figuring out workers’ compensation and your obligations

NFIB Oregon is always happy to amplify the notifications state agencies put out of small business importance, and recently two departments posted news of interest and importance to our members.

The Oregon Employment Department reminds business to file their combined payroll report by Tuesday, April 30. The department encourages business owners to:

  • Submit your first quarter report electronically through your Frances Online account.
  • Make your payment when you file your payroll reports through Frances’ direct connection to Revenue Online by selecting “Make a Payment with DOR.”
  • For help submitting your quarterly reports or making payments, call us at: 503-947-1488.

Remember:

  • When submitting your reports, you must report all wages, for each employee, for each program, every quarter.
  • If you have at least one employee with wages subject to Paid Leave Oregon, you must submit Paid Leave contributions, even if you are not subject to Unemployment Insurance taxes.

Workers’ Compensation

Caitlin Breitbach, the state’s Small Business Ombudsman for Workers’ Compensation within the Department of Consumer and Business Services, says help is available from her office:

  • explaining workers’ compensation coverage requirements and what type of coverage best suits their needs
  • providing advice on how to shop for workers’ compensation insurance
  • helping businesses that are in dispute with their insurance company, and helping them navigate through the appeal processes that are available
  • conducting outreach to businesses and their professional advisers to educate them about their rights and responsibilities under the workers’ compensation laws
  • helping in any other capacity related to workers’ compensation, or helping to refer businesses to other agencies

More information is available on her department’s website at https://www.oregon.gov/dcbs/SBO/. She can also be reached at caitlin.s.breitbach@dcbs.oregon.gov
